About The Pyrenees
The Pyrenees stretch nearly 300 miles from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean, forming a natural border that has shaped kingdoms, trade routes, and daily life for millennia. Hidden valleys sheltered their own languages, Basque in the west, Catalan in the east, and stone chapels still crown remote ridges where pilgrims once crossed on their way to Santiago de Compostela. In summer, shepherds move their flocks to high meadows called estives, following paths worn smooth long before maps were drawn.
