About Little Italy
In the old Italian neighborhoods, the day ran on the bakery's first bread and ended on somebody's stoop. Once a year the saint got carried down the street with dollar bills pinned to the ribbons, and the sausage smoke hung over the whole block. The men argued over bocce, the women argued over whose cannoli shells were crisper, and an accordion started up somewhere around nine.
