About Grandma's Hope Chest
Before a girl had a house, she often had a chest. Young women once filled a cedar chest a little at a time, years ahead of any wedding, with quilts and embroidered towels and whatever linens they could manage. The cedar kept the moths off, and it also left a smell that clung to every pillowcase and doily for decades.
