About Beethoven's Symphonies
Beethoven wrote nine symphonies between 1800 and 1824, and the whole of Vienna seemed to argue about each one. He started out in the shadow of Haydn and Mozart and ended up writing music so big that later composers were nervous to follow him. By the Ninth he could barely hear a note of it, and that's the part that still gets people.
