On August 8, 1921, Esther Williams was born in Inglewood, California, and the world eventually gained a star unlike any other. A competitive swimmer before she ever faced a camera, she turned Hollywood's studio pools into shimmering stages, her synchronized sequences blending athletic power with pure showbiz glamour. The "aquamusicals" she anchored for MGM through the 1940s and 1950s drew millions to theaters, making the swimming pool itself feel like the most magical place on earth.
