On September 21, 1866, Herbert George Wells was born in Bromley, England, a boy from a modest household who would grow up to reshape how humanity imagines its future. With The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, and The Invisible Man, he conjured voyages through time, invasions from the cosmos, and the unsettling thrill of the unseen. His genius lay not just in wild invention but in using fiction as a lens: every wonder he dreamed on the page was a quiet question about the world he lived in.
