About The French Reveillon
In France, the Réveillon de Noël is less a quick dinner and more a slow, candlelit ceremony that begins after midnight Mass and lasts deep into the small hours of Christmas morning. The table is laden in stages, briny oysters and foie gras first, then a grand roast, and finally the Bûche de Noël, a chocolate log cake that arrives like a centerpiece from another world. Around the table the famille gathers, glasses of Champagne or Norman cider raised, the whole house warm and fragrant while winter presses quietly against the windows.
