About Pele
Edson Arantes do Nascimento grew up in Bauru, Brazil, and was a teenager when he signed with Santos. At seventeen he scored in the 1958 World Cup final in Sweden, and nobody who watched it forgot the sight. He later finished his playing career in New York with the Cosmos, drawing crowds to Giants Stadium in the 1970s who might not have known a corner kick from a throw-in.
