About Solomon's Temple
Solomon's Temple rose on Mount Zion in Jerusalem as the most celebrated structure in ancient Israelite history, its cedar beams shipped from Lebanon, its inner walls lined with gold, and its great carved cherubim standing watch over the sacred ark. Two towering bronze pillars flanked its porch, and the air within was thick with the smoke of incense offered morning and evening before the Lord. For nearly four centuries it stood as the dwelling place of God among his people, a house of prayer whose memory has shaped worship and architecture across the world ever since.
