About The Tabernacle in the Wilderness

The Tabernacle was a portable sanctuary the Israelites carried through the wilderness, a precise, intricate dwelling place set apart by curtain and courtyard, pillar and veil. By day a pillar of cloud rested above it; by night a pillar of fire shone in its place, visible to the whole camp. Inside, the lampstand cast its steady glow over the altar of incense, the table of bread, and the innermost place where the ark rested behind the veil.
