About The Table of Showbread

Each week inside the Tabernacle and later the Temple, twelve fresh loaves of fine flour were arranged in two rows on a golden table overlaid with pure gold, one loaf for each tribe of Israel. Called the bread of the Presence, they rested before the Lord continuously, a sign of the covenant between God and his people. Only the priests could eat the old loaves when the new ones were set in their place on the Sabbath, a sacred rhythm of offering and renewal that filled the holy place with fragrant incense.
