About The Priestly Garments
The garments worn by Israel's high priest were among the most detailed objects described in the Hebrew scriptures, each piece made with intention, each thread a declaration of holiness. The ephod, woven of gold and fine twisted linen, carried two onyx stones engraved with the names of the twelve tribes, a living memorial on the priest's shoulders. Over his heart he wore the pectoral, a jeweled pouch set with twelve precious stones in rows of gold, and from the hem of his robe hung small golden bells that rang as he moved through the sanctuary, so that he would be heard, and live.
