About The Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant was the most sacred object in ancient Israel, a chest of acacia wood overlaid inside and out with pure gold, crowned by a mercy seat flanked by two golden cherubim whose wings stretched toward each other overhead. Carried through the wilderness on gilded poles threaded through golden rings, it traveled at the heart of the Israelite camp, veiled in cloth before every journey. Within it rested the stone tablets of the Law, a jar of manna, and Aaron's staff, a triad of reminders of God's provision, covenant, and priestly calling.
