About The Holy of Holies
Deep within the Tabernacle, and later the Temple in Jerusalem, lay a small, cube-shaped room where no ordinary footstep fell, only the high priest, once a year on the Day of Atonement, passed through the thick veil bearing the blood of sacrifice. Inside rested the Ark of the Covenant, its golden mercy seat flanked by the outstretched wings of two cherubim, the whole space understood as the dwelling place of God's own glory. Silence, incense smoke, and the weight of holiness: the most sacred threshold in all of ancient worship.
