About Miriam
Long before she lifted her timbrel at the edge of the sea, Miriam stood quietly among the reeds of the Nile, keeping vigil over a small basket that held the fate of her people. She was bold enough to approach Pharaoh's daughter and wise enough to offer her own mother as nurse, a child acting with the calm nerve of a prophet. Years later, after the waters closed behind them, it was Miriam who led the women in song and dance on the far shore, her voice ringing out across the sand in one of the oldest hymns of deliverance recorded in scripture.
