About Foods of the World

Every country has a pot that somebody's grandmother stirred on a Sunday. Paella is cooked in a wide, shallow pan over an open flame near Valencia, while a Polish kitchen fills with the steam of pierogi being pinched shut by hand. Cross a few borders and the smells change, cumin and cardamom in one place, garlic and fermenting cabbage in another, but the table looks oddly familiar everywhere.
