About The Piano and the Keys

The piano sits at the crossroads of jazz history, part rhythm section, part soloist, part storyteller. Ragtime gave it a syncopated swagger in the late 1800s, and stride players like James P. Johnson turned Harlem parlors into concert halls. By the time bebop arrived in the 1940s, pianists were chasing harmonies that left the old chord books behind, their fingers mapping new territory on 88 ivory and ebony keys.

How to play
