About The Saxophone

The saxophone is a woodwind instrument, its brass body shaped by Adolphe Sax, who patented the design in Paris in 1846, but its soul driven entirely by a vibrating cane reed. Felt-cushioned pads seal each tone hole as the player's fingers fly, sending a column of air singing through that distinctive curved bell. Within a century of its invention the saxophone had become the voice of bebop, the cool of West Coast jazz, and the aching cry of the blues, from the alto's bright shimmer to the baritone's earthy rumble, each register telling its own story in a single long, unbroken breath.

How to play
