About Sputnik 2 Carries Laika to the Stars

On November 3, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 2 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, carrying a stray dog named Laika into Earth's orbit, the first living creature to travel beyond the atmosphere. Engineers built a padded capsule around her, monitoring her heartbeat and breathing as the rocket climbed through layers of sky and silence into the cosmos above. That single mission rewrote what humanity believed was possible, transforming the dream of space travel from speculation into something living, breathing, and real.
