About Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls straddles the border of New York and Ontario, where the Niagara River drops more than 160 feet over ancient glacial rock into the churning basin below. The Horseshoe Falls, the great curved Canadian cataract, carries the vast majority of the river's flow, sending a roaring curtain of white water into a perpetual cloud of mist. On clear days, sunlight bends through that mist into brilliant rainbows that arc across the gorge, and tour boats push bravely into the spray, their passengers drenched and delighted.
