About The Danube

The Danube rises in Germany's Black Forest and winds almost 1,800 miles east before emptying into the Black Sea, passing through more countries than any other river on Earth. Along its banks, medieval castles crown limestone bluffs, old towns lean toward the water on cobbled quays, and the light on the current shifts from silver in the morning to deep gold by evening. For centuries barges have carried grain, wine, and stone along this corridor, tying together the cultures and kitchens of a whole continent.
