About The Mighty Mississippi
The Mississippi rolls more than 2,300 miles from its quiet headwaters in northern Minnesota all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, draining the heart of a continent. For generations it was a working river, flatboats and cotton barges, paddle steamers churning past bluffs and cypress swamps, the deep-throated blast of a whistle carrying across the water before dawn. Down near the delta, the land dissolves into bayou and marsh, where Creole and Cajun culture took root in the rich, muddy soil and made something entirely their own.
