About The Chirping Cricket

On a warm summer evening, a cricket's song fills the air with a steady, rhythmic pulse, a sound so familiar it feels woven into the night itself. The music is made not by the voice but by the wings: a cricket rubs its forewings together in a technique called stridulation, each stroke producing that clean, bright chirp. Out in the meadow, katydids and locusts join in, layering the darkness with a chorus that has lulled people to sleep on porches and under open windows for as long as anyone can remember.

How to play
