About Butterflies & Bugs
Only male crickets chirp, and they do it by rubbing one wing against the other, a file on one edge scraping a ridge on the other. That's the sound under the porch steps at dusk, and it's one of eight small subjects in Butterflies & Bugs. The others include a ladybug on a grass blade, a beetle working through the soil, a garden spider holding her web, and the fireflies that start blinking as the light goes.
