About Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans in 1901 and learned cornet as a boy, long before the trumpet made him famous. In the late 1920s his Hot Five and Hot Seven records, cut in Chicago, changed what a solo could be. In 1964 he was sixty-two years old and sitting at the top of the pop charts with Hello, Dolly, a feat that still makes people smile.
How to play
