About The Easter Lily
Lilium longiflorum, the Easter lily, is native to the Ryukyu Islands of southern Japan, and virtually every bulb sold in the United States today is grown on a narrow stretch of coastal land along the Oregon-California border, around Brookings and Smith River. Growers there call it the Easter lily capital of the world, and they're not exaggerating: that one corridor supplies roughly 95 percent of the country's holiday bulbs. The flower's long white trumpet and heavy, sweet fragrance have made it a fixture at Easter services since at least the early 1900s, when it arrived in force on American shores after World War I.
